One of the things I really enjoy creating is a handmade crochet doll. Most of what I make are animals, critters, characters, and other fun little things, but every once in a while, I like to take on a bigger project.

These are definitely bigger projects. Many take quite a bit of time to make, and there are lots of pieces to make and sew together, but I really enjoy it. And since I had several dolls finished, I thought it was time to get some good pictures of them.

I started by taking individual photos of each doll. Then I thought, why not take a picture of all of them together? So, I started arranging them. And that's when I noticed something.

They looked like a family.

I hadn't made them as a family. In fact, each one was made separately, at different times, and they’re all very different from one another. But when I put them together, I started seeing little sibling personalities.

My Charlie Brown-inspired boy is the obvious big brother. He's so much bigger than the others, and with his hands resting on the girls' heads, he looks protective of them. So sweet.

The Sailor Moon and Mira-inspired girls are not twins—they aren't even from the same character world—but they do have a similar look and energy. They're about the same size, and they both have colorful outfits, fun hairstyles, and lots of little details. They remind me of little girls who like to dress to the trends and are happy to show it off.

Then there's Brooke.

She's much more classic and understated, and I could easily imagine her as the quieter, more settled older sister.

And the little fairy?

She may not be a little human doll, but her small size and youthful features make her look like the baby of the family.

And then I noticed something else, and this actually made me laugh.

In the group photo, Charlie is the only one actually posing for the camera!

If you've ever tried to get a bunch of little kids to look at the camera, smile, and not blink at exactly the same time, you know how hard that can be. I have three older siblings, so I remember those family pictures where getting everybody to cooperate for that perfect shot was the hardest part of the whole process.

And here I was, looking at my crochet family portrait and realizing that, apparently, some things never change. 😂.

Some of the patterns I've used for my plushies are also included in my [Pattern Library], where I keep track of the patterns I've actually tried and enjoyed making.
